Google Wants .LOL Domain

Google has submitted applications for several top level domains such as .google, .docs and .lol. LOL?!? LOL!!! big grin

We’re just beginning to explore this potential source of innovation on the web, and we are curious to see how these proposed new TLDs will fare in the existing TLD environment. By opening up more choices for Internet domain names, we hope people will find options for more diverse—and perhaps shorter—signposts in cyberspace.

Windows 8 Release Preview Download

For those of you that haven't grabbed the new Windows 8 Release Preview, I recommend you head on over and grab Microsoft's latest try-before-you-buy version of Windows 8. I recommend grabbing the ISO image (here) and burn it to a DVD.

It's Windows reimagined and reinvented from a solid core of Windows 7 speed and reliability. It's an all-new touch interface. It's a new Windows for new devices. And it's easy to try now—whether you're installing it for the first time, or moving from Windows 8 Consumer Preview.

Activision Settles Call of Duty Suit

While no specifics were given, you and I both know an assload of money changed hands today. eek!

An attorney representing Jason West and Vince Zampella, former heads of Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward, says a settlement has been reached in the suit but that the terms of that settlement are strictly confidential. "We have reached a settlement in this matter as to all parties and all claims," said David Casselman, one of the attorneys for West and Zampella. "Dismissals will be filed soon,"

Windows 8 Release Preview Review

C|Net has put together a review of the Windows 8 Release Preview that seems to base its conclusions mainly on tablet and laptop use. Still, there is some interesting stuff here, definitely worth the click to check out.

While Windows 8 does get much right, there's too much that hasn't been finalized. The workflow is easy, once you learn it. Does that mean that Microsoft will be including a tutorial for people who haven't read up on it? Ten seconds will do, but that may be 10 seconds too long for many people.

AMD Catalyst 12.6 Beta and Catalyst Feature Preview For Windows 8

AMD sends word that the new AMD Catalyst 12.6 Beta drivers are now out. The company says it is also moving away from its monthly Catalyst release plan. AMD says the goal is to ensure that every Catalyst release delivers a substantial benefit to our end users and, even though you won't see a new driver every month, they will continue to use the current Catalyst naming convention (Catalyst: Year.Month). The AMD 12.6 Beta CAP1 can be found here.

Resolved issue highlights of the AMD Catalyst™ 12.6 Beta:

  • AMD Radeon™ HD 7900, AMD Radeon HD 7800 Tri-CrossFire™ configurations + Eyefinity BSOD when launching a DirectX application.

  • AMD Radeon HD 7900, AMD Radeon HD 7800 Eyefinity/Multiple Display configurations BSOD when using desktop applications.

  • AMD Radeon HD 7900, AMD Radeon HD 7800, and AMD Radeon HD 7700 cards hang when system goes to sleep.

  • Tearing on Eyefinity configurations when different display connector types are used.

  • Poor Elder Scrolls: Skyrim CrossFire scaling seen in AMD Catalyst 12.4 (back to CrossFire scaling found in AMD Catalyst 12.3).

  • AMD Catalyst Control Center – intermittently missing Overdrive page.

  • AMD Catalyst Control Center – missing GPU Activity gauge.

  • AMD Radeon HD 7900 CrossFire Configuration – system hang after cinematic in Call of Duty: Black Ops.

  • Crysis 2 -random system hangs when run in DirectX 9 mode.

  • Heroes and Generals: Blocky corruption in scenes with smoke effects when run in DirectX 11 mode.

  • Disabled HDMI audio when the connected HDTV is powered Off/On.

U.N. Takeover Of The Internet Must Be Stopped

If you want to know why it is such a bad idea to let the U.N. take over the internet, just listen to what they say they will do with it once they get control. eek!

Democratic and Republican government officials warned this morning that a United Nations summit in December will lead to a virtual takeover of the Internet if proposals from China, Russia, Iran, and Saudi Arabia are adopted. It was a rare point of bipartisan agreement during an election year: a proposal that Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin described last year as handing the U.N. "international control of the Internet" must be stopped.

Diablo 3 Offline Single Player Petition

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to start a petition for Diablo III offline single player support. Thanks to Michael Kadlec for the heads up!

Reasons are as follows: Always Online Requirement. Want to play anytime and anywhere without having the worry of an internet connection. Some fans can't afford a great internet connection. Create Two Accounts: Online Player/Offline Player. $60 Price tag should warrant you play the game how you want.
