I thought piracy was killing the movie industry? It looks like the MPAA might have to come up with a different line of BS to feed the public.
The MPAA tends to leave no opportunity unused in its quest to show that online piracy is devastating the movie industry. However, this supposed devastation is not visible at the box office this year. In 2012 North American movie theaters showed more movies than ever before, and for the first time in history domestic box office grosses surpassed $10.7 billion The new record comes in a year where two academic studies have shown that "piracy" isn’t necessarily hurting box office revenues .

I think Netflix just doesn't like the holidays. Maybe it's just too many people trying to watch Netflix at once. Who knows? Good thing they doubled Hasting's salary.
Breaking: This might be the year people with no New Year's Eve plans talked to other people after all. A week after the Great Netflix Outage of Christmas 2012, some but not all users complained that Netflix was down once again on New Year's Eve day, and nobody's entirely sure why this keeps happening at the most inopportune time.

Honestly, even though they claim this is fixed, I still prefer wishing people a Happy New Year in a more personal manner. If you have too many friends to do it individually, just say it on your FB profile and be done with it.
Student and blogger Jack Jenkins, found that he could view the messages simply by changing the ID number displayed in the message's confirmation URL. The messages would show up as if he were sending the note. He could read the text, see any attached photos, and even delete the message.

While online shopping is no doubt a contributing factor here, I think the overall crap state of the economy is the biggest reason for the death of brick & mortar shops.
As we do more and more of our shopping while sitting on our couches in our pajamas with an Ultrabook, we’re destroying a glorious American institution: the mall. Realspace retailers large and small alike have gone bankrupt and shut down or scaled back: a process that the recession only sped up.
