This week Mushkin unveiled its new SSD line called The Reactor Series. The 1TB SSD has transfer speeds up to 560MB/s read and 460MB/s write, while also having a low power consumption. An excellent blend of the efficiency of an SSD with the large capacity of a mechanical hard drive.

Other features include DevSleep for ultra-low idle power consumption, DataRefresh and EarlyRetirement for enhanced data integrity, SMART support, and security erase support, and firmware field update support.

Is Black Friday Showing Signs of Gray?

For many of you, the first years of the Black Friday were reserved for the electronics/computer minded folk and the contents of the sale were kept under wraps like a state secret. Fast forward to 2014 and now Black Friday is merely the official kickoff for the holiday shopping season. Has the day lost its importance to you?

This is the first year we're not seeing so much of a focus on Black Friday itself," said NPD tech analyst Stephen Baker. "More and more of the market intensity is being driven to Thanksgiving week. Or to put it more bluntly: Black Friday becomes more irrelevant every year.

Monitor Vendors Eyeing 5K Units In 2015

5K monitors coming in 2015? Well, hopefully that drives down the price of 4K monitors so we can all get our 4K gaming fix (here, here and here) without going bankrupt in the process.

As global shipments of LCD monitors are expected to reach 136 million in 2014 followed by 132 million in 2015 and 128 million in 2017, vendors are looking to release high-end units in niche areas in order to remain profitable. Supply chain sources noted that Philips in particular is eyeing 5K monitor opportunities, and that most 5K panel supply in the market will come from LG Display.

Windows 10 Natively Supports FLAC and MKV Codecs

It looks as though Windows 10 will feature support for MKV and FLAC right out of the box. cool

This expands Microsoft's support for popular but less-than-standard file formats. FLAC joins MKV (one of the most common containers for H.264 video alongside MP4) and HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding), both of which were also confirmed by Aul on Twitter last month.

NZXT Source 340 Mid-Tower Case

The NZXT Source 340 mid-tower chassis is on the test bench today at eTeknix.

The S340 is the latest edition to the Source range, and there have been some pretty big changes to the general design. Gone are the sweeping curves and large sections of mesh ventilation. Now we have bold flat panels and a very minimalist look that has more in common with the H440 than it does with previous entries to the Source series.

Samsung Employees Fear The Chop In Annual Reshuffle

Everyone understands that job cuts are necessary sometimes. We just wish they'd start "chopping" from the top down. wink

Insiders say staff at Samsung Electronics have never been so anxious ahead of the annual reshuffle, as a weak smartphone performance and its worst earnings in three years are expected to cost many jobs.
