Client Download

Download the Vista console GPU client

Directory Creation

Create a directory and unarchive the file you just downloaded into the directory.

Shortcut Creation and Editing

Edit the shortcut and add the -config switch

Configure the client

Now start the client and configure it.

Example:
- User name: Name you wish to fold under
- Team: 33
- Ask before fetching work: no
- Use proxy: no
- Allow recipt of work assignments and return of results greater then 5mb: big
- Advanced Options: no

Final Shortcut

Go back and edit the shortcut again, remove the -config switch and add any switches you may wish, I use - forceasm -local. For more information on switches see the list below.

Advanced Options

I always choose no when asked to change the advanced options, but then again I don't fold on a laptop. If you wish to tweak the settings the information for each setting is listed below.

Example:

- Core priority (Idle/Low): It is recommended that you always pick lowest possible. The slightly higher option is good if another program is causing FAH to Lag or stop working. Just note that it might cause your other programs to lag or stutter.

- CPU usage requested (5-100): Default is 100%. However you can scale it down if needed. This is especially good for laptops that overheat easily.

- Disable highly optimized assembaly core (no/yes): This setting disables FAH's ability to use your CPU's SSE and SSE2 code. In turn , slowing down the folding process.

- Pause if batterypower is being used: Check this box if you dont want FAH to run when your laptop is running on battery power.

- Interval Between Checkpoints (3-30) [15?]: " no-pref" will make you run all units . " no " will make you run normal units with deadlines , use this option if you are going to run big packets. " yes " will set your workunits for timeless, this is good for systems under 500Mhz that run all the time or faster systems that do not run 24/7.

- Request work units without deadlines (no-pref/no/yes)[/color] - For Computers that run 24/7 you should set it to 15-30 min. For computers that run a few hours a day , it is best set to 3-10 min. Note: the shorter the checkpoint interval the longer the workunit takes because FAH has to write checkpoint files more often, which takes away CPU time.

- Ignore any deadline information (mainly used if system clock frequently has errors) (no/yes)15) Machine ID (1-8): Always choose " 1 " unless you are running 2 or more clients on the same machine.

Client Command Line Switches

Example:
-config: Configure user information.
-configolny: configure user information, then exit.
-queueinfo: Get information on queued work units.
-delete x: Delete item #x from work queue.
-send x: Send result #x then exit.
-verbosity x: sets the output level, from 1-9 [default 3].
-pause: Pause after finishing and trying to send current unit.
-oneunit: Exit after completing 1 unit.
-forceasm: Force core assembly optimizations to be used if available.
-advmethods: Use new scientific cores and/or work units if available.
-service: Run in service mode.

Please keep in mind that I am a coder, I normally don't write the guides but in this case it needed to be done.
