Asus EAX1600XT Silent

Sudhian has posted a review of the passively cooled Asus EAX1600XT Silent (please, no silent but deadly jokes). Need something with a little gaming umph, won’t break the bank or your ear drums? This might be the card you are yearning for.

Asus has opted for a dual heat-pipe design to passively cool the graphics card. The GPU side of the card is pretty bare with a simple block with two heat-pipes that come out of it. From there the two heat-pipes curve around back to a bunch of fins that help dissipate heat. The fins are formed similar to a car radiator and are roughly half the size of the card.

XFX GeForce 7900GT

Box Gods says that the XFX GeForce 7900GT is “all that” and then some. From what I could tell, the XFX 7900GT looks like a decent card and it performed well in their review. Our GeForce 7900 series evaluation can be found here.

Overall, I think the XFX 7900GT is a great budget buy. It performs very well and doesn't have a divorce inducing price tag. One thing to remember is that we reviewed the non overclocked version of this card and a lot of manufacturers-- including XFX--are selling factory overclocked video cards for a small price bump.

HiS X1900 XTX & X1900 CrossFire Edition

Bjorn3D has a dual video card review posted today covering both the HiS X1900 XTX and the X1900 CrossFire Edition. For more information I recommend reading our Radeon X1900 series evaluation.

Even though NVIDIA has responded with the excellent 7900 series of cards, the X1900 XT and XTX still are considered among the fastest and are still priced competitively. Today, we are looking at the HIS X1900 Crossfire Edition Master Card and the HIS X1900 XTX. We will test them both separately and in Crossfire mode.

Monarch Computers Rebate

I was talking to Steve about all of the big rebating going on in the industry and he asked me if I used my left hand or my right. eek! Anyway, Monarch Computers, a sponsor that makes all of this possible seems to think they have something that will be of interest to our readers. Check out the Monarch Rebate Countdown here. And be careful the next time Steve tries to shake your hand.

How To Reinstall Windows XP

I know most of you have reinstalled Windows XP so many times that you have your CD key memorized by now. But for every one of you there, there is ten other people (if not more) that might need a little help. Laptop Gamers written a guide to reinstalling Windows XP that is a checklist of sorts for anyone doing a complete reinstall.

For anyone that has reinstalled their operating system a few times the process seems pretty straightforward as they have found all of the gotchas the first few times. I have lost mail and contacts but not much else over the years by following (or not following) a system to reload my operating system and software. This purpose of this guide is to give you a checklist to follow so that a reloading of Windows goes smoothly the first time.

Are you tired of the way that old case sitting on your desk looks? Well, how about turning that plain ol’ case into something just “plane” awesome? [H] forum member KikBox will show you how he did it.

Google Opens R&D; Facility In Taiwan

Google just announced that it will open a research and development center in Taiwan. Google has hired the former deputy director of the Academia Sinica Institute of Information Science to oversee R&D; operations.

“Google’s Taiwan R&D; Center opening will dramatically boost Google's service and technology development in the Greater China region,” said Dr Kai-Fu Lee, Vice President, Engineering and President of Google Greater China. “We look forward to seeing even more local talent joining us at the research center. I have been following Dr Chien's excellent work in Chinese information retrieval for the past 10 years. He is recognized as one of the top experts in the world in this area and he is certainly second to none as our choice for the first director of the Google Taiwan R&D; Center.”

SilverStone Strider 600W PSU

There used to be a time when having a 500+ watt PSU was just for bragging rights. Now, thanks to power hungry PCs running dual high end video cards, high end PSUs are a now a requirement…not a luxury. This SilverStone Strider 600W PSU, reviewed by Guru3D, had shut down issues when used with a CrossFire configuration and required a workaround to make it functional.

It's fixed though, with this bypass the PSU most certainly can handle the load we are serving it quite well. In fact it's one of the best PSUs we ever tested but considering what happened I'm simply not recommending it to people using a GeForce 7800/7900 in SLi mode or ATi users with X1900 XT in Crossfire as the 12V4 rail is rather close to it's limit also.

New Twist To Online Data Storage

Would you like online data storage that allows you to e-mail friends and family links to click and share photos and such without any software or registering for an account? That is exactly what this Project Fusion is supposed to be and, for the most part, it sounds pretty spiffy.

Currently code-named Project Fusion, the offering from hard drive maker Maxtor Corp. and startup Fabrik Inc. will give consumers a large-capacity hard drive appliance that acts as a personal server. It comes with software to let owners access the files on that device over the Internet. And users can create links for others to access those files.

Dell Renegade Sold Out

Legit Reviews says that they have confirmation from Dell that the company has sold out of its Renegade in less than a week. We exclusively reported to you the day of launch that sources inside Dell explained in detail that less than 30 of the units were built.

The Dell XPS 600 Renegade system came with the Dell 3007WFP 30-inch flat panel monitor and prices started at $9,930. While we saw many publications joke about the rich buying these and some stated that no one in their right mind would buy these gaming systems Legit Reviews found out that they sold out in under a week! Who is laughing now?

Dell told us they expected to be sold out by noon the day of launch.

Condemned: Criminal Origins Demo (PC)

It sure seems like there is more stuff happening in the world of gaming today than there is in PC hardware land, doesn’t it? Anyhow, everyone should head over and download the Condemned: Criminal Origins demo for the PC…right now…because I said so. If you want to know a little more about the game before you download the 455MB demo, see our review of the Xbox 360 version which is identical to the PC version (content wise).

SEGA and Monolith have released a Condemned: Criminal Origins demo, allowing you to try out the great psychological action thriller which is also out on Xbox 360. The 455mb demo offers the game's opening mission which, like the rest of the game, allows you to beat up several hobos and druggies. And who wouldn't want to do that?
