Gearbox Fights Back In Aliens Lawsuit

There is an update in the lawsuit over the false advertising claims made against Gearbox.

In the motion for partial summary judgment, filed with the Northern District of California court on Wednesday, attorneys for the developer argue that Gearbox shouldn't be included in the suit because it was a contractor and that Sega had final say on the game and its marketing. The filing also noted that Gearbox sunk millions of its own money into Aliens to finish the game.

Kickstarter Suspends Alleged AirBNB Squatter’s 2nd Campaign

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. No reason was given but, if I was Kickstarter, I would have listed "10/10 would suspend again." big grin

Kickstarter has now suspended the project, as of today. Why? Kickstarter isn’t saying, but the negative publicity surrounding the condo-squatting incident and the non-delivery of the other Kickstarter-funded title. Backers of the other projects may have also complained to Kickstarter after someone using the developer/squatter’s account left a comment saying "10/10 would squat again" on the project’s page.

Gamasutra Explains: The YouTuber Phenomenon

Are games developers seriously talking about making games that cater to YouTubers?

"I now believe there's a direct correlation between how good your game is and how many unique YouTube videos it can yield," Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski recently said. "The YouTubers have taken over, folks!" The way games look on video is now fundamentally affecting how Bleszinski makes them -- and he isn't an upstart, but someone who's already found massive success making games.

FCC Questions Verizon Over Throttling

The head of the FCC must be a Verizon customer with an unlimited data plan. wink

I am deeply troubled by your July 25, 2014 announcement that Verizon Wireless intends to slowdown some customers' data speeds on your 4G LTE network starting in October 20 14.1 Your website explained that this was an extension of your Network Optimization policy, which, according to your website, applies only to customers with unlimited data plans.

Everyone Hates Broadband Caps

Did we really need a study to tell us that everyone hates broadband caps? What's that you say? This was a government conducted study? Never mind, that explains it. roll eyes (sarcastic)

In all eight focus groups the GAO conducted, participants "expressed strong negative reactions" to the idea of metered or capped broadband at home. Consumers observed that the internet is increasingly important to all aspects of their lives and that having reduced access could be harmful, particularly to students, telecommuters, and lower-income households.

Apple Said to Target 200 Job Cuts at Beats After Deal

According to this report, Apple will be telling two hundred employees to "beat it" after the company finalizes its acquisition of Beats.

The iPhone maker has extended temporary offers to about 200 Beats workers who aren’t guaranteed a long-term role with Apple, said a person with knowledge of the plans, who asked not to be identified because the discussions were private. Those who may be out are in finance, human resources and other roles where there’s overlap, the person said. Beats has about 700 workers.

43Tbps Over A Single Fiber

The only thing faster than 43Tbps on a single fiber, is the speed at which the "downloading porn" jokes will start in the comments section. big grin

In a more user-friendly unit, 43Tbps is equivalent to a transfer rate of around 5.4 terabytes per second or 5,375 gigabytes to be exact. Yes, if you had your hands on DTU’s new fiber-optic network, you could transfer the entire contents of your 1TB hard drive in a fifth of a second or, to put it another way, a 1GB DVD rip in 0.2 milliseconds.

Dotcom’s Assets Attacked From Multiple Directions

I'll be amazed if this guy makes it out of this mess with a single penny.

Kim Dotcom is dealing with a multi-pronged attack on his assets. While the governments of both the U.S. and New Zealand work to keep already seized assets frozen, a High Court judge has just ordered the millionaire to reveal where all of his remaining assets are. Meanwhile, all U.S. civil action has been frozen until 2015.
